The Holy Eucharist
The principal act of worship on Sundays in the Episcopal Church is the Holy Eucharist, also known as the Lord's Supper, Mass, or Holy Communion. At Saints Matthew and Mark, we offer the Eucharist every Sunday. The weekly gathering of the faithful for the Holy Eucharist is the "source and summit" of the Christian life.
Who May Receive Communion?
All who have been baptized with water in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are welcome and invited to receive Holy Communion, as conscience permits.
Those not receiving, for whatever reason, are invited to come to the altar rail for a blessing, indicated by folding arms across the chest.
In the Episcopal Church, children of any age may receive Communion as soon as they express the desire to do so, and their parents agree that they are ready. Those deemed too young to receive are welcome to be brought to the Altar rail for a blessing.
Home Communions
Those who are housebound or otherwise unable to come to church on Sunday mornings can arrange to have Communion brought to them by the Priest-in-Charge and the Lay Eucharistic Visitors who assist in this ministry. Please speak to the Priest-in-Charge or the Senior Warden if you or someone you know might benefit from this ministry.
