The Taizé Community, located in the Burgundy region of France, was founded by Brother Roger Schutz in 1940, and for many years was a sanctuary for refugees fleeing the Nazi occupation. It is now an ecumenical monastic order and a pilgrimage site, especially for young people from around the world. The community focuses on peace and justice through silent meditation and simple songs that are drawn from both Western and Eastern Orthodox traditions.
On the last Thursday of every month at 7pm we have a service in the style of Taizé. The service is marked by simple meditative hymns, short readings and prayers, and a period of contemplative silence.
