The Vestry

The vestry is the parish's governing board and its legal representative with regard to all matters involving its corporate property. Vestry members are elected at the annual parish meeting. The vestry's presiding officer is the Rector or Priest-in-Charge. The vestry's lay officers are the senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, and secretary. The senior warden is the parish's principal lay leader and advisor to the clergy. The junior warden has responsibility for the buildings and grounds. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation; to support the church's mission in word and deed; to select the new Rector or Priest-in-Charge when the position becomes vacant; to ensure effective organization and planning; and to manage parish resources and finances.

The parish is governed according to its Bylaws, subject to the Canons of the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, the Canons of the Episcopal Church, and all applicable federal and state civil law. (See links below.)
